Comedy Inc. star Gavin Stephens with guest Welby Santos will be bringing their nerd-friendly comedy stylings to the Lido Theatre for a two-night engagement this weekend.
The Toronto-based comedian has toured throughout Canada, the United States, England and South Africa and has a long list of credits including a handful of one-man specials for the Comedy Network’s series Comedy Now.
Stephens wrote and performed in five seasons of CTV’s Comedy Inc. and in 2007 he received a Gemini nomination for Best Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Series. He has also performed in Just for Laughs festivals in Montreal.
He said his show really engages the audience.
“It is a highly interactive show. I do a lot of nerdy material, but I am also very relatable. It is interactive in that I like to talk to the audience quite a bit.”
As his routines are heavily improvised, each is different, he said.
“Every show I do is completely different. About 90 per cent of my act is improvised so every show is unique. It will be personal to Fort St. John.”
Nerdgasm is one of his one-man shows and the Fort St. John audience will experience elements of that, he said.
“There will be a lot of nerdy references. My friends call me a human Wikipedia, the type of references that I go for. You have to know a little bit to come into the show, not too crazy though.”
He credits Richard Pryor as one of many comedians that have inspired him.
Stephens’ 19+ show opens tonight at the Lido Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. For more information contact the Lido at 250-785-3011.
