Hey Romeo returns to Fort St. John on Friday

The country music trio, Hey Romeo, plays at Egan’s pub this Friday at 9 p.m. and there is no cover charge.

The group, consisting of lead vocalist Stacie Roper, Rob Shapiro on keyboards and guitarist Darren Gusnowsky, formed in 2002 and were last in Fort St. John in January.

Their new single, Searchin’ for You, recently hit Top 20 in Canada.

“We are coming back to Fort St. John. It is our album release promotion tour for our new album That’s What I Am. We are doing a backyard BBQ that was a radio station promotion, that is going to be a lot of fun, then we pack up and do our acoustic show at Egan’s pub,” said Shapiro.

Their visit to Fort St. John launches a gruelling 17-stop tour, cut up by a quick trip across the pond.

“We fly to France in July to play at a country music and motorcycle festival so that should be kind of an eye opening experience.”

Shapiro said the band has been influenced by such acts at Dwight Yoakam, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Alison Krauss, the Statler Brothers, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Emerson Drive and the Mavericks.

He said they are often described as a “slightly country or more traditional version of Lady Antebellum.”

Despite the crazy schedule, Shapiro said the group loves what they do.

“It is an exciting time and this summer is going to be pretty crazy.”

Their new CD is available through iTunes and at Wal-Mart in town and their new website, www.heyromeo.com is up and running.
