Man charged in Beatton River assaults appears in court

Jordan A. Ramos appeared in Fort St. John Provincial Court yesterday via video conference from Prince George in connection with Beatton River assaults in the early morning hours of July 25.

Ramos has been charged with four counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose, one count of assault and one count of possession of a firearm contrary to order.

There has been a general adjournment in the case to Sept. 8, but the crown wanted to ensure that Ramos was unable to have contact with the approximately 30 people named in the disclosure document Ramos’ lawyer recently received.

The accused reappeared Wednesday afternoon in front of Provincial Court Judge B. Daley and was ordered under section 516 (2) of the Canadian Criminal Code not to make contact or communicate, directly or indirectly with the people named.

“We are of the view that he is a serious threat to anyone that comes forward,” said crown prosecutor Paul Swartz in court. The defense lawyer was not there to respond.

Ramos said it would be unfair to do anything without his lawyer, so an interim order has been put into effect until ruling can be made on Aug. 30. That order states that Ramos will not be allowed contact with those named until that time.

Jeremy D. Jondreau was set to appear in court Wednesday morning in relation to the Beatton River case, he is charged with assault with a weapon, but could not appear in court because he had been arrested while he was out on bail, which was set on Aug. 3. His bail was revoked today and it was decided out of court that he will next appear on Sept. 8 at 9:30 a.m.
