Beatton Provincial Park will be getting a boost of almost $30,000 to improve the cross-country trails.

The federal government announced that $29,841 will be provided to the to the Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"Our government is continuing to support communities across Canada by investing in projects that improve community infrastructure," said Bob Zimmer, MP for Prince George – Peace River who announced the funding on behalf of Lynne Yellich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.

The goal of the project is to improve the safety, accessibility and assortment of cross-country trails available within the park through a series of improvements such as clearing trails, installing coverts and improvement of the quality of the trails.

"A well planned and developed cross country ski trail facility is an essential part of any northern community and by creating a more diversified trail layout, we will be able to service an even greater skier population," said Eliza Stanford, president of the Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club Society.

Zimmer added, "This project will create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our community."
