ST. LOUIS - No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford will start at quarterback in the regular-season opener at home against Arizona next weekend.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo announced the decision Saturday, saying Bradford earned the job and everyone was confident in him. The game is Sept. 12.

Bradford won the 2008 Heisman Trophy when he was at Oklahoma. He signed a six-year, $78 million contract with $50 million in guaranteed money and then went out and played well in the preseason against the likes of New England and Baltimore.

A.J. Feeley and Thad Lewis are the backups.
