Advanced voting continues today

It's the last day of advanced voting for civic elections in the North Peace.

In Fort St. John, the polls are open until 8 p.m. at the Legion.

Alaska Highway News has sent out a questionnaire to all candidates in this year's election, asking them about their experience and priorities, what they think the city should be spending more or less money on, the city's greatest achievements and failures over the last four years, and the biggest challenge in the next four.

School District 60

Voters in Fort St. John will also elect three trustees to sit on the School District 60 board of education.

Alaska Highway News has sent out a questionnaire to all candidates who filed for a seat on the board, asking them about their experience and education priorities, how they'd handle teacher negotiations, improve teacher recruitment and retention, balance rising enrolment with the need for more schools and more.

Voter registration

There is no need to pre-register to vote as the registration of all electors for this election will take place at the time of voting.

You will be required to make a declaration that you meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • Canadian citizen
  • resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration (April 19, 2018)
  • resident of OR registered owner of real property in the City of Fort St. John for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration (September 19, 2018), and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

Resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature).

Picture identification is not necessary.

The identification must prove both residency and identity.

Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the majority of the property owners.
