Positive COVID-19 test leads to patient death

Northern Health says Dawson Creek and District Hospital is dealing with nine patients and three staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 - and one death.

"Ongoing monitoring and testing on the medical inpatient unit at Dawson Creek & District Hospital has identified additional lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. As of February 12, nine patients and three staff have tested positive for COVID-19 related to the outbreak. Sadly, one patient who had tested positive for COVID-19 has passed away."

Northern Health Public Health officials add they are monitoring for additional cases, and the facility continues to take steps to protect the health of staff and those they care for, with enhanced outbreak precautions.

"The outbreak continues to be limited to a single unit, at this time. More information on public exposures, school exposures, and facility or community outbreaks of COVID-19 within the Northern Health region."
