The airport is back running at 99 per cent, but there are still 1,500 unclaimed bags.

As of Wednesday, there were still about 1,000 pieces of luggage at YVR waiting to be reunited with their owners.

On Tuesday, this number was 1,500. A YVR spokesperson said they are continuing to “make steady progress with reuniting passengers and their bags.”

The 1,000 bags equates to about three to four flights, YVR noted.

Vancouver International Airport is asking anyone who can’t find their luggage to make a claim with their airline, either online or at the airport.

They also have “baggage customer support” personnel at their information counters on Level 1 and Level 2 to help passengers locate their luggage.

Just before Christmas, with a heavy snowstorm descending on the Lower Mainland, almost all flights from YVR were cancelled, causing chaos at the airport.

Some passengers ended up waiting several hours and up to a few days at the airport as the snow was cleared and flight re-scheduled.

Some passengers were also waiting in planes on the tarmac for hours.

As of now, about 99 per cent of flights are running – there were only seven cancellations as of Tuesday morning out of 580 flights – and more than 65,000 passengers are expected to travel through the airport today.

According to YVR, 99 per cent of luggage leaving the airport is being processed and sent out on time.

Daily passenger volume is expected to be between 60,000 and 67,000 this week.
