The wind, rain and flooding that’s impacted much of the Peace Region has left thousands without power, according to BC Hydro.

As of 11:30 a.m. there was about 3,500 people without power in Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Fort St. John. BC Hydro crews worked throughout the night and are continuing their work today.

About 3,300 are without power in Dawson Creek, as two distribution feeders were lost in the flooding, and at least six power poles have sustained damage. Due to the amount of water, crews are having difficulty accessing the damaged areas.

About 130 customers in Chetwynd are without power due to the flooding, as crews were unable to access damaged areas due to washed out roads.

Crews worked overnight to restore power in Fort St. John, and most residents should have their power back this afternoon. Once hydro crews are done in Fort St. John, they will head to the South Peace to help the communities there. More staff, crews and equipment are being sent up from the Lower Mainland and the southern interior.
