The Northeast Regional Community Foundation says it has awarded $75,000 in emergency grants to eight Peace region groups responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds come in partnership through the federal government's $350-million Emergency Community Support Fund, and support programs that have been severely affected by the outcome of COVID-19, the Foundation said.

Grants distributed since June include:

  • Dawson Creek Choral Society - $10,000 for Covid-19 Program Recovery

  • Networks Ministries Dawson Creek - $6,000 for Covid-19 Related Crisis Response

  • Northern Lights College Foundation - $5,000 for Emergency Funding

  • Peace Pregnancy Support Center - $6,000 for Reopening Project

  • South Peace Community Resources - $5,000 for Reconnect: Outdoors!

  • South Peace Community Resources - $10,000 for Covid-Safe Transport

  • Step Up ‘N’ Ride Society - $10,000 for Safe Transport

  • District of Taylor - $15,000 for Summer Kids Kamp

  • Peace Community Church Taylor - $8,000 for Community Gardens

“All these programs have been severely affected by the outcome of COVID-19 where costs have increased or arisen to cover such items as cleaning supplies, PPEs, safe transportation, major modification to meeting spaces, additional administration, hiring of social workers, creation of community gardens and more,” the Foundation said.
