Scammers impersonating Northern Health staff have been trying to obtain personal information and enter peoples’ homes in recent weeks.

Northern Health issued a notice on Thursday that it is not conducting surveys either online or via phone, nor are they going door-to-door conducting air quality surveys.

There are two scams operating. One is conducted over the phone and Internet, and is designed to obtain personal information under the guise of an employment application.

Northern Health does not hire or accept any applications through social media sites, by phone or by text.

“Our ExpectMore website is the only place to apply for a job at Northern Health,” officials said in a news  release. “Northern Health does not collect any personal information, including banking details, by phone or text.”

The other scam involves Northern Health impersonators going door-to-door who claim to be conducting air quality surveys in Prince George. The person comes back a short time later requesting access to the person’s house, and produces some form of identification saying they’re with Northern Health.

“At this time our program areas are not conducting door-to-door surveys, and do not normally undertake this type of work,” the health authority says.

“Our outreach usually happens at community events. If a Northern Health employee is coming to your house, it is usually with a pre-booked appointment.”

The health authority has contacted RCMP about the fraudsters, and advises anyone who may have encountered them to call 1-877-905-1155 to report the incident.

Northern Health does not know how many people have been affected by the scam, according to spokesperson Jonathon Dyck.

He said the scams were first brought to their attention a few weeks ago, and since then, the health authority has had information on their website warning about Northern Health impersonators.
