The B.C. government issued the main water licences for the Site C dam Tuesday.

The permits, which will allow for the dam's operation, are valid for 40 years and require construction of the dam to be complete by Dec. 31, 2025.

One permit allows for the creation of the reservoir to cover around 9,580 hectares of Crown land along the Peace River valley.

Two others will allow Site C to store 165 million cubic metres of water and divert water at a rate of between 390 - 2,700 cubic metres per second while generating power.

The ministry says permit conditions are consistent with the environmental assessment certificate.
