Woman attacked after confronting cyclist riding on sidewalk in Langford

Witnesses were able to provide a description of the man, who was arrested nearby.

A 65-year-old woman was attacked in Langford Tuesday morning after confronting a man for riding his bicycle on the sidewalk.

West Shore RCMP said a passerby witnessed the man hitting a woman with his bike, causing her to fall and hit her head on the sidewalk along Jacklin Road near Langford Parkway. The incident happened at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Witnesses were able to provide a description of the man, who was arrested nearby.

The woman did not require medical attention.

“It appears the motive for the attack stemmed from a verbal confrontation regarding the cyclist riding on the sidewalk,” said Const. Alex Berube.

He said the suspect and victim did not know each other.

RCMP said the 34-year-old suspect of no fixed address was arrested and later released with a court appearance set for Feb. 10.

The investigation continues. West Shore RCMP are seeking further information and said witnesses can call 250-474-2264.
