Geoscience BC targets 'hidden' copper-gold deposits

With the help of an organization dedicated to the task, a search for "hidden" copper and gold deposits in B.C.'s Central Interior is about to begin.

Geoscience BC announced Thursday $2.9 million worth of work to determine the potential for finding such deposits below the layer of sediment or till left by receding glaciers between the Mount Milligan and Gibraltar and Mount Polley mines.

The project is called the Central Interior Copper-Gold Research series.

"The till that covers much of the Central Interior makes it hard to see the rocks hidden below," Christa Pellett, Geoscience BC vice president for minerals said. "The Central Interior Copper-Gold Research series will help to understand the composition and thickness of the till, and to focus the search for copper-gold deposits."

Data and reports from the project will be shared publicly.

In addition to minerals, Geoscience BC generates research and data regarding the province's energy and water resources.
