Horizon North set to open new open camp to support B.C. LNG

Horizon North Logistics is moving ahead with its strategy to capitalize on industrial services opportunities supporting LNG opportunities on Canada’s west coast.

The company is preparing to open a new workforce lodge on land in Kitimat, B.C., where Shell and its partners are building the $40-billion LNG Canada project.

Horizon North said that in late 2018 it initiated the first phase of development on its 57-acre parcel of land at the entrance to Kitimat.

“The Crossroads open lodge in Kitimat will have first occupancy during Q2/2019, with initial capacity of 260 beds. We expect the company will expand the lodge to permitted capacity of 1,000 beds by the first half of 2020, subject to customer commitments being secured,” analysts with Peters & Co. said in a research note on Wednesday.

“The 14 acres of land dedicated to commercial development will be utilized for hotel, retail and/or office space, although definitive plans are yet to be determined.”

Horizon North currently operates eight open camps in Alberta and B.C., in addition to its project- and company-specific workforce facilities.
