Northeast B.C. Rig Report - July 18

The drilling fleet stayed steady in Northeast B.C. and across Western Canada this week.

Thirteen drilling rigs were at work in Northeast B.C. this week, with 35 rigs down. Last year during the same week, 16 rigs were active.

This week, four contractors were at work, including Precision Drilling (7), Ensign Drilling (4), and Horizon Drilling (1), and Akita Drilling (1).

  • Akita 35 is drilling for gas for Storm Resources at Nig Creek. Spud was July 14.
  • Precision 379 is moving in Oak to drill for Kelt Exploration at Oak. 
  • Precision 465 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources at Doe. Spud was July 13. 
  • Precision 533 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Town. Spud was July 9. 
  • Precision 538 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Doe. Spud was July 11. 
  • Precision 542 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources at Doe. Spud was July 16. 
  • Precision 546 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Town. Spud was July 11. 
  • Precision 867 is drilling for oil for ConocoPhillips Canada at Inga. Spud was July 7. 
  • Ensign 40 is drilling for gas for Painted Pony at Daiber. Spud was July 4. 
  • Ensign 45 is drilling for gas for Encana at Sunrise. Spud was July 15. 
  • Ensign 55 is drilling for gas for Encana at Sunrise. Spud was July 10. 
  • Ensign 444 is drilling for gas for Saguaro Resources at Laprise Creek. Spud was July 12.
  • Horizon 41 is drilling for gas for Encana at Sunrise. Spud was July 7. 

In Western Canada, 135 rigs are working out of 546, for a utilization rate of 25%, the same as last week.

Alberta has 84 rigs working out of 384, for a utilization rate of 22%, and up from 82 rigs last week.

Saskatchewan has 35 rigs working out of 109, for a utilization rate of 32%, and down from 37 rigs last week.

There are three rigs active in Manitoba, and none active in Eastern Canada.

At this time last year, there were 237 rigs at work across Canada.
