Northeast B.C. Rig Report - June 6

Eleven drilling rigs were at work in Northeast B.C. this week.

The region had the second highest fleet utilization rate in Western Canada at 22% for the week, with 38 rigs down. Last year during the same week, 16 rigs were active.

This week, three contractors were at work, including Precision Drilling (6), Ensign Drilling (3), and Horizon Drilling (2).

  • Precision Rig No. 465 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources at Doe. Spud was June 2.

Precision Rig No. 533 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Gundy. Spud was May 31.
  • Precision Rig No. 538 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Doe. Spud was June 2.
  • Precision Rig No. 542 is moving in to Doe to drill for gas for ARC Resources. 

Precision Rig No. 546 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Gundy. Spud was May 28.
  • Precision Rig No. 867 is drilling for oil for ConocoPhillips Canada at Inga. Spud was May 16.
  • Ensign Rig No. 45 is drilling for gas for Encana in Briar Ridge. Spud was June 2.
  • Ensign Rig No. 55 is drilling for gas for Encana in Briar Ridge. Spud was June 5.
  • Ensign Rig No. 437 is drilling for gas for Black Swan Energy at Nig Creek. Spud was June 3.
  • Horizon Rig No. 41 is drilling for gas for Encana at Briar Ridge. Spud was May 23.

  • Horizon Rig No. 55 is drilling for gas for Kelt Exploration at Inga. Spud was May 30.


In Western Canada, 120 rigs are working out of 546, for a utilization rate of 22%, and up from last week when 104 rigs were active.



Alberta has 72 rigs working out of 385, for a utilization rate of 19%, up from 63 active rigs last week.

Saskatchewan has 35 rigs working out of 107, for a utilization rate of 33%, up from 27 active rigs last week.

There are two rigs active in Manitoba, and one in Ontario.

At this time last year, there were 122 rigs at work across Western Canada, for a utilization rate of 19%.
