Northeast B.C. Rig Report - May 16

Sixteen drilling rigs were at work in Northeast B.C. this week, according to Rig Locator.

The region had the highest fleet utilization rate in Western Canada at 32% for the week, with 34 rigs down. Last year during the same week, 12 rigs were active in the region.

This week, four contractors were at work, including Precision Drilling (9), Ensign Drilling (4), Horizon Drilling (2), and Citadel Drilling (1).

  • Precision Rig No. 465 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources in the Dawson Creek area. Spud was May 13.
  • Precision Rig No. 529 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources at Inga. Spud was May 5.
  • Precision Rig No. 530 is moving in to Saturn to drill for Shell Canada.
  • Precision Rig No. 533 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Gundy. Spud was May 11.
  • Precision Rig No. 538 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Doe, north of Dawson Creek. Spud was May 10.
  • Precision Rig No. 542 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources at Inga. Spud was May 12.
  • Precision Rig No. 545 is drilling for gas for Murphy Oil at Sundown. Spud was May 4.

Precision Rig No. 546 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Gundy. Spud was May 5.
  • Precision Rig No. 867 is drilling for oil for ConocoPhillips Canada at Inga. Spud was April 20.
  • Ensign Rig No. 45 is drilling for gas for Encana in Briar Ridge. Spud was May 9.
  • Ensign Rig No. 55 is drilling for gas for Encana in Briar Ridge. Spud was May 10.
  • Ensign Rig No. 437 is drilling for gas for Black Swan Energy at Nig Creek. Spud was May 1.
  • Ensign Rig No. 444 is drilling for gas for Saguaro Resources at Laprise, south of the Sikanni Chief River. Spud was May 3.
  • Horizon Rig No. 41 is drilling for gas for Encana at Tower Lake. Spud was May 10.

  • Horizon Rig No. 55 is drilling for gas for Kelt Exploration at Inga. Spud was May 14.
  • Citadel Rig No. 4 is drilling for gas for Petronas at Altares. Spud was May 4.

In Western Canada, 79 rigs are working out of 548, for a utilization rate of 14%.

Alberta has 53 rigs working out of 388, for a utilization rate of 14%.

Saskatchewan has 10 rigs working out of 105, for a utilization rate of 10%.

There are no rigs active in Manitoba.

At this time last year, there were 90 rigs at work across Western Canada, for a utilization rate of 14%.

There is one rig active in Eastern Canada, in Ontario, where Predator Drilling Rig No. 14 is drilling for Enbridge Gas Distribution in the Sarnia area.
