Northeast B.C. Rig Report - May 23

Thirteen drilling rigs were at work in Northeast B.C. this week, according to Rig Locator.

The region had the highest fleet utilization rate in Western Canada at 26% for the week, with 37 rigs down. Last year during the same week, 14 rigs were active in the region.

This week, four contractors were at work, including Precision Drilling (7), Ensign Drilling (3), Horizon Drilling (2), and Citadel Drilling (1).

  • Precision Rig No. 465 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources in the Dawson Creek area. Spud was May 21.



  • Precision Rig No. 529 is moving in to Inga to drill for gas for ARC Resources.

  • Precision Rig No. 533 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Gundy. Spud was May 18.

  • Precision Rig No. 538 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Doe, north of Dawson Creek. Spud was May 20.

  • Precision Rig No. 542 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources at Inga. Spud was May 12.

  • 

Precision Rig No. 546 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Gundy. Spud was May 21.

  • Precision Rig No. 867 is drilling for oil for ConocoPhillips Canada at Inga. Spud was May 16.

  • Ensign Rig No. 45 is drilling for gas for Encana in Briar Ridge. Spud was May 9.

  • Ensign Rig No. 55 is drilling for gas for Encana in Briar Ridge. Spud was May 10.

  • Ensign Rig No. 437 is drilling for gas for Black Swan Energy at Nig Creek. Spud was May 17.

  • Horizon Rig No. 41 is drilling for gas for Encana at Briar Ridge. Spud was May 10.


  • Horizon Rig No. 55 is drilling for gas for Kelt Exploration at Inga. Spud was May 13.

  • Citadel Rig No. 4 is drilling for gas for Petronas at Altares. Spud was May 4. 

In Western Canada, 86 rigs are working out of 548, for a utilization rate of 16%.

Alberta has 55 rigs working out of 387, for a utilization rate of 14%.

Saskatchewan has 18 rigs working out of 106, for a utilization rate of 17%.

There are no rigs active in Manitoba.

At this time last year, there were 108 rigs at work across Western Canada, for a utilization rate of 17%.

There is one rig active in Eastern Canada, in Ontario, where Predator Drilling Rig No. 14 is drilling for Enbridge Gas Distribution in the Sarnia area.
