Canadian Natural restarting production as wildfire ebbs

Canadian Natural Resources says it has restarted production at its Pelican Lake and Woodenhouse oil operations in northern Alberta after regaining access to the sites as wildfire conditions have eased.

The company temporarily shut in approximately 65,000 bbls/d at the operations, located near Wabasca and Slave Lake, on May 30, evacuating all 240 personnel.

Canadian Natural said it restarted operations on June 8, and continues to monitor the wildfire situation with local officials. It expects to be back near 65,000 bbls/d “over the next week or so.”

“There has been no material impact due to the wildfires on Canadian Natural’s total targeted June liquids production, as overall production volumes from these areas have, to a large extent, been mitigated by increased production from other producing areas that the company had previously curtailed production levels to meet the Government of Alberta’s mandatory June curtailment,” the company said.
