Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has started to prepare for in-person classes and is ready for students and staff to return to campuses, according to a school spokesperson.

On Tuesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that all post-secondary institutions will require proof- of-vaccinations for all non-essential indoor group activities such as gatherings, concerts, conferences, sports and recreation and cafeterias to help curb the increasing COVID-19 cases.

Sucheta Singh, KPU spokesperson, said the school is following Provincial Health Order guidelines closely and is “well prepared for the fall semester” to make sure its campuses are a safe place to work and study.

“Fall classes at KPU will either be face-to-face or online for students where appropriate,” she said.

“KPU will proceed with planned on-campus, hands-on instructional activities, with safety guidelines in place including an indoor mask policy.”

In a statement, Alan Davis, president of KPU, said the school has listed a number of guidelines and assumptions they will be following as the beginning of the semester approaches.

Among a list of actions the school is taking, the school will be finalizing an “adjusted plan” by Aug. 30 for any chances that things could change between now and then.

Davis addressed in the statement that while food services will re-open on campus, more information will be provided closer to the start of the semester in regards to cafeterias requiring proof of vaccinations in order for students to sit and eat.
