Northeast B.C. COVID-19 update for April 7

18 new cases in Northern Health reported Wednesday

There were 171 COVID-19 cases reported in northeast B.C. last week, according to the latest data from the BC Centre for Disease Control.

From March 28 to April 3, there were 115 cases in Peace River South and 56 in Peace River North. There were none in the Fort Nelson region.

As of April 7, there were 300 active cases across the Northern Health region, including 33 people in hospital, 11 of them in critical care.

There have been 5,877 recoveries and 129 deaths in the region.

To date, 946,096 vaccine doses have been given in B.C., including 47,068 in northern B.C. (2,782 second doses)

Vaccine Clinics

  • Fort St. John - April 12 to 16 and April 20 to 23, for seniors 70 years and older and indigenous peoples 18 years and older. Clinics will be held at the old Mark’s store at Totem Mall.

  • Dawson Creek - April 13 to 16 and April 20 to 23, for seniors 70 years and older, and indigenous peoples 18 years and older. Clinics will be held at the Encana Events Centre.

  • Chetwynd - April 6 to 9 and April 20 to 23, for all community members 18 years and older. Clinics will be held at the Legion.

  • Hudson’s Hope - April 6 to 10, for all community members 18 years and older. Clinics will be held at the health centre.

  • Tumbler Ridge - April 12 to 16 and April 27 to 30, for all community members 18 years and older. Clinics will be held at the rec centre.

  • Fort Nelson - April 14 to 15 and May 11 to 14, for seniors 50 years and older and indigenous peoples 18 years and older. Clinics will be held at the rec centre.

Northern Health reports recent school exposures at:

  • Dawson Creek Secondary (South Peace), Dawson Creek - March 29 and 31

  • Devereaux Elementary, Dawson Creek - March 29

  • Duncan Cran Elementary, Fort St. John - March 29 and 30

  • Moberly Lake Elementary School, Moberly Lake - March 8 to 12

The BCCDC has flagged five flights for exposures, including:

  • Air Canada flight 8182, Fort St. John to Vancouver on March 27, affected rows 29 to 33

  • WestJet flight 3308, Calgary to Fort St. John on March 26, affected rows 1 to 6

  • Air Canada flight 8182, Fort St. John to Vancouver on March 23, affected rows 9 to 15

  • Air Canada flight 8188, Fort St. John to Vancouver on March 20, affected rows 1 to 4

  • Air Canada flight 292, Vancouver to Fort St. John on March 18, affected rows 29 to 33

Across B.C.

There were 8,728 active cases reported as of April 7, with 997 new cases reported Wednesday (106,985 total).

There have been 96,626 recoveries and 1,491 deaths to date, with two new deaths reported

There are 330 patients in hospital, 105 in critical care.

In northern Alberta, there were 1,522 active cases, 13,325 recoveries, and 150 deaths as of April 7. Thirty-five are in hospital, six in intensive care.
