Oppenheimer is exactly what you think it is going to be. While the plot seems a bit more into the David Fincher ‘Mank’ realm – this is easily a best picture of the year nominee.
While very Kubrickian in scope, much like Fincher, Mendez, and PT Anderson. A huge sprawling cast – rich 70mm projection – thundering and deep sound design. Every frame is saturated and fantastic. Much like Dial of Destiny, there is a slow 25 minutes not needed – and the end turns political – which is where you know the film must go the minute it doesn’t end with the big bang/bomb.
The cast is all-star – and I find it intriguing that it will be an Oppenheimer v Barbie, Robert Downey Jr vs. Ryan Gosling come Oscar time next year. Reminds me of a lifetime ago when it was Downey nominated in Tropic Thunder up against Heath Ledger as the Joker. Cillian Murphy has always been a star going back to the Red Eye days and
Each role here is meticulous, and this may be the first time I’ve seen Matt Damon overact. I wager Nolan gets a handful of Oscars that should have been for previous films.
Oppenheimer blows up this week in the Creek.
