Dawson Creek’s martial arts community grappled for all kinds of gold in Prince George.
Almost 30 athletes from Dawson Creek’s Legend Academy were in PG on May 20, competing in the Northern BC’s Open Martial Art Challenge.
Kaiten Mixed Martial Arts Academy of Prince George hosted the return of the Brazilian Jujitsu, Grappling and Kickboxing tournament at Prince George Senior Secondary School. According to officials, the results were as follows.
· Kids gold kickboxing: Stahl Kurka, Rykker Kurka, Ryker Fermaniuk, Cyrus Shoop.
· Kids gold BJJ: Ryker Fermaniuk, Cyrus Shoop.
· Adult gold kickboxing Shayne Dagenias. (He fought in a larger bracket than most and the gold silver match was against another member of our gym Dominic).
· Teen’s gold: Dominic Bennewith, gold medal match here was also against another member in town Omar Tijani
· Adult BJJ gold: Jesse Milliken.
· Cyrus Shoop received triple gold as he stepped up in a weight class to fight as one of the other students dropped out.
Legend Athletic Foundation is a not-for-profit entity, available to those is looking to try martial arts but doesn’t have the means.
