The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society has been granted $5,000 as part of the latest round of Site C related community funding.
It’s the fourth grant the society has received through the Generating Opportunities Fund, BC Hydro said Tuesday, and will be used to help staff its Outreach Store, which provides free food, clothing, household necessities, hygiene products, and other essential items for women, children, and men in need.
Meanwhile, the Tansi Friendship Centre Society in Chetwynd was granted $7,500 for a biweekly support group program for expectant mothers and new parents. It is also the society’s fourth grant awarded from the fund.
The GO funding program sets aside $100,000 per year for non-profit agencies in communities impacted by Site C. The fund is administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
BC Hydro says the program has granted now $552,566 to 63 projects since it was started in September 2016.
