Air Canada resumes flights

Air Canada has resumed its operations in Fort St. John one week earlier than planned.

The airline suspended its operations in the city on April 2. It will fly once per day to Vancouver starting today, June 15, at 10:50 a.m. The airline will begin two flights per day starting June 22.

WestJet flights continue to Calgary. Central Mountain Air is still reporting a return to scheduled commercial service on June 8.

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said air passengers will soon need to undergo mandatory temperature checks in order to get on their flights.

Trudeau noted that the temperature checks will be phased in; initially, it will be put in place for passengers entering Canada, then for passengers departing Canada. Domestic passengers within Canada will undergo required checks in the third phase of this initiative.

No specific timelines of a roll-out have been announced.

Fort St. John airport officials say are aware about the coming policy change.

"We are aware that Transport Canada has a draft copy of temperature check requirements that is currently under consultation," said Managing Director Shea De La Mare.

"We expect it will be initially rolled out at the larger airports. At this point any required temperature screening will be conducted by the air carriers or CATSA."
