Alaska Highway reopened after vehicle recovery

Detour in effect

The Alaska Highway at the Baldonnel underpass is now reopened.

A section of the Alaska Highway south of Fort St. John will be closed today beginning at 11 a.m to allow for the removal of a tractor-trailer that slid off the road Monday near the Baldonnel turnoff.

According to Dawson Road Maintenance, a detour has been put in place while work is carried out.

Motorists will be re-routed from Highway 97 (Alaska Highway) via the 255 Road, Airport Road, and the 259 Road (Swanson Lumber Road).

The removal should take about three hours.

Roads in the region, as of this morning, remained icy in many areas with slippery sections reported in others.

Drivers are urged to drive to the conditions.
