Another round of RCMP building contracts up for approval

Fort St. John city council will vote next week on another major group of contracts for the new RCMP station.

Thirteen contracts with a combined value of $2.3 million are up for approval on Monday’s agenda, for everything from architectural woodwork, flooring, wall panels, staff lockers, toilet partitions, and whiteboards.

Some, but not all, of the tenders came "significantly above the original estimated budget," the report states.

However, the project is in "an excellent position overall," with $4.9 million in contingencies and a $3.7 million budget remaining for furniture, fixtures, and equipment, the report stated.

Tenders up for award on Monday include:

  • a $665,300 tender to Milltech Millwork of Edmonton for Architectural Woodwork

  • a $456,111.96 tender to Braun Flooring & Home Decor of Fort St. John for Ceramic Tile and Resilient Flooring and Carpet Tile

  • a $295,900 tender to M & L Painting Ltd. of Coquitlam for Painting 

  • a $270,522 tender to Stonhard Division of RPM Canada of Delta for Seamless Epoxy Flooring 

  • a $247,490 tender to Westcoast T-Bar Ltd. of Surrey for Acoustic Wall Panels 

  • a $189,376 tender to W.L. Construction Ltd, of Fort St. John for Lockers

  • a $65,990 tender to Westcoast T-Bar Ltd. of Surrey for Sanitary Wall Panels 

  • a $47,896 tender to AccessSMT Holding Ltd. of Surrey for Operable Walls 

  • a $29,100 tender to Richelieu Building Specialties of Richmond for Toilet Partitions 

  • a $16,996 tender to AccessSMT Holdings Ltd. of Surrey for Toilet Accessories

  • a $16,230 tender to Richelieu Building Specialties of Richmond for Carpeting

  • a $6,530 tender to Richelieu Building Specialties of Richmond for Whiteboards and Tack boards

  • a $5,160 to Richelieu Building Specialties of Richmond for Overhead Counter Shutters 

According to the city, geothermal pipe installation has been completed and masonry activities on cell-block building have started. Concrete topping of the main floor has been completed, while floor topping pours on the second and third levels is planned to begin.

Underground utilities continue to be installed, while civil, electrical and mechanical activities also continue.

The report notes there is one tender package remaining for landscaping, with a budget of $1.05 million. 

The city says of the $31.4 million of contracts awarded that 67%, or $21.2 million worth, have gone to local contractors.
