Applications for the City of Fort St. John business façade improvement program are now open. The program looks to help provide facelifts and improve the visual appeal of local downtown businesses through exterior renovations or signage.
Businesses in the Downtown Development permit area will receive a one-time 50% reimbursement grant, with a maximum limit of $5,000 per building or project. For corner buildings, each side of the building is eligible for up to $5,000, for a maximum of $10,000. The grant aims to support various visual improvements such as facades, murals, siding, lighting, awnings, and architectural features.
Mayor Lilia Hansen said the city is committed to supporting local businesses.
“And ensuring that downtown remains the economic, social, and cultural heart of our community. Over the past several years, numerous façade improvement projects have been completed resulting in the enhanced aesthetic of our downtown area. With the support of the Northern Development Initiative Trust, we are excited to continue the efforts to improve the downtown area by providing financial support to local businesses.”
In addition to improving the visual appeal of the community, this program will also enhance community pride and the overall visitor experience. Furthermore, this program aims to promote community growth by supporting the recruitment of new businesses and residents.
