Hi, my name is Wendy Whitford and I am the reporter of this year’s Beatton Community 4-H Club. In one week, we are having our Achievement Days, we are going to be doing games on and off horses.
Achievement Days we do showmanship which is leading horses and making them stand in a position where all feet must be lined up, then a person will walk around the horse and you will have to switch sides of the horse to where the person is, past the since line you will be in the opposite side of the person waking around the horse. We also do patterns on the horse. You will have to memorize a pattern that you will
practice for a couple months. The pattern you’re on is the level you’re on, I’m on pattern three, therefore I’m in level three.
Since the summer is here, that means you will be riding more, when you go ride make sure you bring a hoof pick because if your horse steps on a rock it can go into the hoof and hurt the horse’s hoof, so if you bring one and see your horse not waking right you can go down and pick the feet and hopefully it’s just a rock.
Our theme this year is Medieval Times, we will be doing games and decorating our barn with a medieval theme. The games we will be playing are jousting, and other fun games. For decoration we will have swords and metal armour. For the jousting sticks we will use pool noodles to be safe around little ones and so the horses don’t freak out.
