Child released from hospital after being hit by vehicle

An 11-year-old child has been released from hospital after being hit crossing the street in Mathews Park Tuesday morning.

The child sustained minor injuries when they were struck by a westbound vehicle at 87 Avenue and 87 Street around 8:30 a.m., RCMP said.

The driver remained at the scene, police said, and the road was reopened shortly after noon.

The driver was ticketed under the Motor Vehicle Act for speeding relative to the conditions, RCMP said.

Roads in the Mathews Park area are extremely icy. Drive with caution.
