Feds, province pitch in $859,000 for North Peace Arena upgrades

The federal and provincial governments announced $859,000 in funding Tuesday for repairs and upgrades to the North Peace Arena.

The arena is one of nine municipal infrastructure projects across northern B.C. receiving funds, with $5.7 million in total announced through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Funding for the arena will help cover a roof replacement, the installation of new air handling units and rooftop exhaust fans, and the replacement of interior lights with LED lights.

Of the funding, $687,200 will come from the federal government, while the province will provide $171,800.

The arena was closed at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and remained closed after the roof problems were discovered last year during exterior cladding upgrades.
