Three companies are being recognized by the province for recent repairs to the Taylor Bridge.
Hatch Ltd., Charter Project Delivery Inc., and T.Y. Lin International Canada Ltd. shared a 2023 engineering award of excellence from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, for their work repairing a gusset plate on the span connecting the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek regions.
The ministry says the companies, working as an engineering team, found and fixed the weakened plate "while keeping one lane of the bridge open for several consecutive nights during the repair.”
“While conducting engineering investigations for the future of the Taylor Bridge Project using computer models and inspections of thousands of structural elements, the team detected an understrength gusset plate on a main load path of the bridge,” the ministry said.
“The layout of the structural members connecting to this gusset plate required the team to design a unique and innovative repair to solve the issue in as short a time frame as possible. Throughout the process, the team communicated effectively and provided full-time onsite presence.”
