The Fort St. John Firefighters Charitable Society received an $8,050 donation Tuesday thanks to the proceeds of this year's Advent calendar fundraiser.

The funds will be used to help local families with the cost of medical travel and to support burn victims.

“It’s always great to see companies come together to help us fundraise and opportunities like this, that engage the whole community, are particularly heart-warming,” said Captain Brent Morgan, president of the Firefighters Charitable Society.

The calendar was designed by local graphic artist Carolina Giselle, and produced in partnership with SJA Promo, Home Hardware, and the AFDE Group. Nearly 500 calendars sold, with the remaining being donated.

"It’s just another example of the great things that happen when groups work together,” said SJA owner Kailey Odermatt.

Each calendar featured a firefighter rescuing Santa, and inside each of the 24 windows were a Belgian chocolate and a holiday fire safety tip.

“It was so exciting when the calendars arrived,” said AFDE Group's Jennie Gagnon. “From the uniquely Fort St. John design, to the delicious chocolates, I’ve been enjoying counting down to Christmas with mine.”

The businesses are already talking about planning another Advent calendar for the 2022 holiday season to follow up on this year's success.

“This was such a fun and tasty fundraiser, I'm already excited to see what we can do next year,” said Home Hardware owner Shelley Gallinger.
