The only commercial flight out of Fort St. John is now a lone daily WestJet trip to Calgary.

The flight is scheduled six days a week Sunday through Fridays. Some flight days however have been cancelled due to a lack of demand.

The terminal is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and though scheduled flights are down to a minimum, the airport remains open and fully operational to other flights such as medevacs, air cargo, and air tankers, said airport director Shea De La Mare.

Charter flights are down to Mondays only for industrial changeover, with Wednesday flights cut from the schedule.

Air Canada has suspended its operations at the airport until April 30. Central Mountain Air has suspended flights until June 8.

WestJet says it is selling fewer seats on its domestic flights to give passengers enough room to keep their physical distance.

"Every other seat on our Bombardier Q400 will be unavailable to book. This leaves you with a bit more space and a bit of distance as we work our way through the Covid-19 crisis," the airline says.

The airport had set a new record for commercial traffic in 2019, welcoming 278,720 passengers. That was up 4% from its previous high of 268,240 passengers in 2018.

The airport had been seeing continued record-setting growth over the past decade, save for a slight dip in 2016 due to a downturn in the economy.
