Once again, XY Bison Ranch at Mile 44.5 of the Alaska Highway did the North Peace proud in having won the Gold Trophy and Grand Champion Female award at the Canadian National Bison Show and Sale in Regina on Nov. 22.

A sibling in the bred heifer class also won a Bronze trophy.

"A tribute after travelling by far the greatest distance to Regina," said Bill Bouffioux, owner and manager of the XY Ranch since 1989.

There were 50 active bidders in the room and 60 online bidding on 66 bison at this year's sale, which grossed $252,500, according to the Canadian Bison Association.

The Grand Champion Bull consigned by Silver Creek Bison of Binscarth, Manitoba, topped this year's sale at $21,500, and was sold to Windy Hills Bison of Michigan.

The Grand Champion 2020 Yearling Heifer from XY sold for $2,250 to a buyer in Saskatchewan. XY's third-in-class 2019 Bred Heifer sold for $3,000 to a buyer in Saskatchewan, and an XY 2020 Breeding Bull sold for $2,000 to a buyer in Alberta.

“We were very pleased with the interest in the sale,” said Keegan Kitzul, Canadian Bison Association National Show and Sale Chair.
