Fort St. John church family in self-isolation

The Fort St. John Alliance Church says a family that attended its church service on Sunday has since gone into self-isolation.

The family attended the first service on March 15, and "is exhibiting symptoms that could indicate COVID 19 and additional symptoms that could indicate the flu. These are not confirmed cases," the church said in a post to Facebook.

Lead Pastoer Andrew McGregor said each of its services Sunday were under 250 people, in line with public health directives and guidelines. Church leadership was informed Monday that a family came down with flu-like symptoms on Sunday night, and that was communicated out to the rest of the church, McGregor said.

"The family has sought medical advice from their doctor and have followed instructions to self-isolate and self-monitor," McGregor said.

"As a church, we are performing a thorough cleaning of our facility. In the desire to create a safe and healthy environment for our congregation and community, as of March 17th all in-person ministry meetings have been cancelled or postponed. Additionally, we will be moving our church services online until further notice."

The church has suspended Sunday morning gatherings and will livestream services instead. All other regular church events are cancelled.

The church is encouraging people to follow provincial government guidelines.
