Fort St. John's first farmers' market of the season opens this weekend at the city's new festival plaza.
Market Manager Margie Unruh says while there’s no major changes this year, she's excited about setting up in the new plaza when the market opens Saturday, May 1.
“We are very excited about the new location and hoping the weather will stop soon,” said Unruh of the snow on Tuesday.
A bout of cold weather and snow today and Wednesday is expected to clear by Thursday, according to forecasts, when the weather returns to sunny skies and a high of 16 C.
Environment Canada calls for a high of 13 C and a mix of sun and cloud for Saturday.
Due to public health guidelines, space will be limited for both vendors and members of the public. Unruh said a COVID-19 safety plan is being finalized with the city this week.
The market is a great place to support local during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Unruh said.
“The vendors are really excited and so are the customers," said Unruh. "I think we’re going to really, really busy."
