The Alaska Highway is now open to "full load capacity" at the Sikanni Chief River bridge, highways officials said Wednesday.
Public Procurement and Services Canada confirms the highway is open to all vehicle traffic up to a weight limit of 63,500kg “following the reception of results from concrete material testing on the bridge.”
“Traffic is limited to a single lane and continues to be monitored with the speed limit set to 30 km per hour,” said spokesperson Katherine Proulx.
A fuel tanker truck overturned and caught fire on the bridge on Aug. 25, killing one person and causing significant damage to the bridge.
Traffic has been limited to light vehicles 15,500kg and under for the last three weeks since the bridge was reopened following the accident.
The Sikanni bridge is located about halfway between Fort St. John and Fort Nelson.
Public Procurement and Services Canada is the the federal department responsible for most of the Alaska Highway through Northeast B.C.
