Funds for food relief

Eight Peace region groups will benefit from a slice of $150,000 in funding to help them provide food relief and security to the community.

Ovintiv said May 22 it would be dispersing the funds to groups in communities where it operates. To benefit in the Peace are the Dawson Creek Society for Community Living, Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society, Nawican Friendship Centre, Network Ministries, Pouce Coupe Food Bank, Salvation Army, South Peace Seniors Access Society, and St. Marks Anglican Church.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has created an increased demand for food provisions and also has disrupted the food supply chain—making it difficult for the families most at risk to have access to nourishing meals," the company said.

Marla Reed, executive director of the Dawson Creek Society for Community Living, said the funds were appreciated.

"Our ability to provide meals for seniors in our community is first and foremost during this difficult time,” said Reed.
