The NPSS Grizzlies senior girls soccer team advanced to provincials May 14, 2022 shutting out Dawson Creek 5-nil in the zone final. They will play June 1-4 in Surrey.

The North Peace Secondary senior girls soccer team is off to Provincials next month.

The Grizzlies advanced Saturday morning after shutting out Dawson Creek Secondary 5-nil in the zone championship.

“The tournament went really well for us,” said head coach Daniel Turner, whose team didn't give up a goal in the three games they played. “Our defence was spectacular. We allowed little for the other teams to take advantage of. Goal scoring is great, but we know defence is what wins championships.”

“They are probably the best-coached team in Fort St. John that I have seen in a long while,” said DCSS Penguins head coach Robert Eichelberger. “They're very disciplined, very organized. They play really well. I'd be very surprised if they don't place at Provincials.”

Team captain Brynn Kielo earned a hat trick in the final.

“I got really good passes from my teammates,” said Kielo.

Kaja Hasse opened the scoring for the Grizzlies; the last goal of the game, an own goal by Dawson Creek.

The BC senior AAA high school girls soccer championships take place June 1-4 in Surrey.
