Brandon Modde and Kurtis Lee each had a goal and five helpers as the Fort St. John Huskies rolled to their eighth-straight win Friday night beating the Fairview Flyers 13-0.
Thomas Loewen also added two goals and goalie Jackson Powers stopped all 11 shots in the team’s third consecutive shutout of the season against the Flyers.
“It doesn’t matter who we line up against. Doesn’t matter who we’re playing, it matters how we’re playing,” said Modde, following the game.
“Focus on things we do and show up every night.”
Meantime, with his six point night, Lee regains the lead in league scoring, two up on the Wheat Kings Keaton Mercredi.
“I got some great linemates with me [Brandon Modde and Ashton Underhill] but the biggest thing is moving the puck. Creating chances. We’ve been lucky this season to be able to capitalize on them,” he said.
For him, though, part of it is playing on an even keel.
“It’s important to stay level-headed. If things aren’t going well, you can’t just dwell on those, you have to keep moving.”
The Huskies remain in third place in the Northwest Junior Hockey League standings with 23 points, keeping pace with Grande Prairie (32) who were idle Friday night and Sexsmith (30) who doubled the Beaverlodge Blades 4-2.
Fort St. John, though, has three games-in-hand on the two teams above them and will have the chance to gain some ground before the Christmas break.
The Huskies (11-3-1) hit the road Saturday for a game against the Blades (7-12-1) in Beaverlodge.
