Jean Leahy and Sue Popesku have been posthumously bestowed with Freedom of the City honours.
The Freedom of the City is the highest award the city can bestow on an individual or group to recognize their contributions and achievements.
Leahy was a long-time advocate for seniors, the environment, agriculture, and women’s issues in the Peace region, and sat on the regional district board from 1994 to 1996. She died in August 2019 at the age of 84.
Popesku was a long-time arts and culture ambassador, and a tenacious fundraiser who brought in millions of dollars in support for the Cultural Centre, the Arts Council, the Museum, the Hospital Foundation and more. She died in April of this year at the age of 72.
City council made the resolutions in two separate closed meetings in 2019 and 2020, releasing it decisions to the public on Tuesday.
