Ma Murray gym reopening pushed to new year

Plans to reopen the Ma Murray school gym to community groups have been pushed to the new year.

"We’re definitely continuing the planning process and we want to make this work. But it's just a question of timing," said Stephen Petrucci, superintendent for School District 60. "With the new (Covid-19) restrictions, and the increased transmition of the virus in the region, we think it's prudent to take our time."

School trustees approved the reopening plan on a trial basis at its Nov. 16 meeting. At the time, the hope was to have the gym opened in early December.

Petrucci said both the school district and Ma Murray staff will continue to meet with interested community groups to understand their interests and need for gym use, while developing an application process.
