The provincial government says it is funding 34 additional early childhood educator training spaces at Northern Lights College.

According to the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training, they are among 147 seats being funded province-wide as part of an expansion of childhood education training.

The new seats will include full- and part-time studies and online learning, as well as specialty programs in Indigenous community-based delivery, infant and toddler, and special needs, the ministry said.

“Providing more opportunities to train early childhood educators empowers people who are passionate about caring for our children," said Minister Anne Kang in a news release on Monday. "A strong workforce of early childhood educators will give B.C. families the peace of mind and time needed to pursue work, education and opportunities."

The ministry says it has provided $8.66 million to create 1,003 new ECE training spaces at 13 public post-secondary institutions across the province, including 74 at NLC.
