The Northern Lights College rodeo team are back home after competing last week at the Canadian College Rodeo Finals in Brooks.

And, three of the ten members who made the trip were crowned with national titles.

Farmington’s Kevin White is the 2022 steer wrestling champion, Baldonnel’s Aspen Wollen, the new pole bending champion, and Merritt’s Bryce Garcia, who also attends NLC, is the tie down champ – Northern Lights, the only B.C. college that has a rodeo team.

"I’m super proud of the whole team in the arena and out,” said team manager Leanne Esau.

“They represented the college on a very professional level. Their sportsmanship in and out of the arena, how they represented the college around town.”

For Esau, though, it’s just as important that the team do well in the classroom.

“They worked very hard in practice, but they worked just as hard on their courses. Having them pass is a big thing too. We want them to be successful in school, to reach their future goals, as well as their rodeo growth.”

NLC finished second overall in the seven-team competition which featured five colleges from Alberta and one from Saskatchewan.
