Enjoy baked goods and help out animals everywhere by donating to National Cupcake Day today.
National Cupcake Day is a fundraiser for SPCAs and Humane Societies around Canada.
“It’s not just the B.C. SPCA, it’s for multiple humane societies, SPCAs, rescue groups, anybody who wants to register, really,” said Candace Buchamer, manager of the North Peace SPCA. “The nice thing about National Cupcake Day is that it gives individuals an opportunity to support whoever they choose to. Not everybody wants to support an SPCA, but it gives you an opportunity to help out.”
Teams register online and choose a group to support, and the funds raised go towards that organization. Funds collected for the BC SPCA go to the provincial organization, and then divided between the branches. “It’s a good thing, it’s still going to help animals in need,” said Buchamer.
She said that some school groups in the area do a bake sale challenge where they compete to raise the most funds. “They get the children involved, get them baking – well, some of the parents are baking – but it gets them involved,” laughed Buchamer.
Anyone seeing cupcakes for National Cupcake Day around town today Buchamer encouraged to stop and donate. “It’s all about getting some funds and generating public awareness.”
