School District 60 has closed its playground equipment in order to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Superintendent Stephen Petrucci says the March 31 decision in is line with following the directions of the provincial health officer.

“It’s impossible to have children using the play equipment and still be able to do physical distancing,” said Petrucci, noting that the district doesn’t have the resources to keep the equipment sanitized at the needed levels.

A similar closure has been enacted in Dawson Creek, by the city.

Given the risks associated with the coronavirus pandemic, all playgrounds, outdoor fitness facilities, and skate parks were closed March 26, with the exception of parks, greenspaces, and trails.
