Fort St. John RCMP say they recovered a stolen firearm following a disturbance call in Taylor last week.

RCMP were called just before 10 a.m. on June 2 in response to a driver of a dark SUV who later returned to the area on an ATV, police said. Responding officers found the driver riding the ATV, who fled from police. The ATV was later located and determined to be stolen, police said.

"In an attempt to locate the driver, the Fort St John RCMP received warrant approval to enter the driver’s residence," RCMP said in a release.

"Upon entering the residence two firearms were located, neither registered to the property owner and one determined to have been stolen approximately a week earlier."

The driver was found and arrested a short time later, RCMP said.

Archie Whitford is charged with driving while prohibited, flight from police, two counts of possessing property obtained by crime, uttering threats, and possessing a firearm without a licence.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court June 21.
