Environment Canada has upgraded its special weather statement to a wind warning for the B.C. Peace as a strong system moves through the region.
"Southwest winds are expected to increase to 60 km/h gusting to 80 near midday today and remain strong through Thursday morning. Occasional gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are possible especially for tonight as a cold front sweeps through," says the warning.
Motorists are also being urged to drive with care.
"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds," particularly in wind-prone areas like narrow valleys.
A special weather statement was also issued Wednesday morning for the Fort Nelson region for strong, windy conditions.
The forecast is calling for a drop in temperatures Thursday night, a warm up over the weekend, and another drop below zero early next week.
